Above is the first test of Smalltalk based on Silverlight/DLR running in a browser.
Here is the first test of Smalltalk (based on the DLR) running inside a Silverlight-enabled browser. To execute an expression, use ctrl-Enter to bring up the context menu in a Workspace; then choose “DoIt” or “ShowIt”.
At the moment, this is basically an engineering ”proof-of-concept”. There are still a lot of things that I don’t fully understand about the DLR, so most of the Smalltalk class-related functionality isn’t implemented yet. Over the coming weeks, I will work this out by observing the workings of the IronPython compiler in much more detail.
Smalltalk works in Silverlight - now the focus will be on making it work well.

Whoo! Congrats Peter! It’s been a lot of fun watching your progress. Looking forward to more.

Thanks Ryan,
I will soon be upgrading my Flash components as well.
It looks as though both Silverlight/DLR and Flash/Apollo will be viable platforms.

I am so excited to do this but I followed the instructions above, I can get the Smalltalk Virtual
Desktop Transcript Window up, but when I try to point my browser to the 2nd link above all I
get is Vistacript.Net “Find something Interesting Screen” with the GRAY BOX at the top.
I know this ties into the Visual Studio environment somehow but I can’t seem to find much information
on what steps need to be done 1st w/in Studio to get this to work. I have loaded the .NET 3.5 with V. Studio 2008, not 3.0 2005 anymore. Is this the problem, it only works w/.NET 3.0? What needs to be brought up with Visual Studio, which version of Studio and .NET, & how do I configure V.S. so I can bring up the class hierarchy browser, etc. w/in a browser?
Lots of questions, I’m sorry, I love Smalltalk’s environment, but not liking Visual Studio too much.
Thanks, Sherry
